Evaluation process

The articles that are postulated to the EAN journal are subject to a complete evaluation process, with a general selection criteria that includes the thematic relevance, the scientific quality, the originality, the clarity in the argumentation, and the fulfillment of the parameters of article presentation established by the journal, in order to guarantee the quality and scientific rigor of the publication. The detailed description of this process is presented below:

Once the thematic axes of the editions of the year have been defined, as well as the projection of the editorial calendar by the Editorial Committee of the journal, the corresponding calls for national and international for the reception of articles are launched.

After the call is closed, the Editorial Committee gets together to carry out the verification process of the initial requirements for the articles, in relation to their typology, compliance with the journal guidelines for the presentation of articles, and the thematic focus hereof.

After this first evaluation filter, the corresponding notification is made to the totality of the authors, and those texts that have passed this first stage move to the review and evaluation phase in double blind mode, by external peers.
The selection of the external peers is done based on their knowledge and expertise with respect to the subject of the text to be evaluated. This search is performed through the database of external collaborators of the publication, which is constantly updated, and the database of arbitrators of Colciencias.

The evaluation is carried out using the format that is authorized by the journal, which is sent to the peers together with the text, the general instructions for completion, and the notification of the deadlines established for the corresponding review and evaluation.

The two axes around which the evaluation is articulated are the formal structure and the quality of the content, which in turn divide into a series of elements that are rated numerically - from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest value and 5 the highest-, and that in their final sum produce a score that determines the valuation and the concept in front of the publication of the article in the following way:

RATING

VALUATION

CONCEPT

100 - 90

EXCELLENT

Publishable, does not require any adjustments.

89 - 80

VERY GOOD

Publishable, it requires minimum adjustments.

79 - 70

GOOD

Publishable, it requires medium level adjustments.

69 - 60

ACCEPTABLE

Publishable, it requires significant adjustments.

59 - 0

NON ACCEPTABLE

Non-publishable.

According to the concept that is issued by the peer, the notification to each author including the feedback of the observations and suggestions obtained through the evaluation are sent, as well as the request for adjustments, if required. In the latter case, a specific delivery period is determined and subsequently a verification process of these adjustments is carried out, under the responsibility of the evaluating peer.

Ethics and Publication Malpractice

Plagiarism is the textual or partial copy of ideas from others that are presented as your own. Therefore, it is understood as undue intellectual appropriation; it is a practice proscribed by law, reproached and repudiated by society.

Due to the above, each author, in his/her writings, must respect the right that arises on ideas, criteria and even figures, tables, and in general, all kinds of works that are taken from other authors; that is, you must give them their corresponding credit.

As for the self-plagiarism, it is about the previous publications elaborated by authors, who in turn, consider that they can use information of these materials without indicating that, first, they have already been published, and second, that it is from their authorship. This practice, from any ethical point of view, is inappropriate and rejected in the framework of scientific writing.

The articles that incur in any of these two situations - plagiarism or self-plagiarism-, will not be considered, under any circumstance, to supply the process of publication in the EAN journal. Given the case, the respective notification of rejection will be made, making the reason clear.

The EAN journal uses the Safe Assign Software for the verification of plagiarism and self-plagiarism in its articles.
