Form and preparation of manuscripts

Author Guidelines

Formatting

Page size: Letter.
Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
Font: 12-point Arial.
Alignment: The running text is justified, and titles are flush left.
Line spacing: 1.5 cm.
Length: Between 5,000 and 8,000 words, including tables, figures, and references.
Footnotes: They should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, except for notes related to the origin of the article and author information, which should be marked with asterisks. Footnotes should be 10-point Arial, single-spaced, and justified. They should be short, not exceeding three lines, and provide clarifications that are additional to or complement the text. They should not be used to cite references.

Structure of the paper

The manuscripts should follow the IMRaD (Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion/Conclusions) structure. Literature reviews and reflection papers can omit some of these sections. Nevertheless, they should follow a coherent structure and apply the formatting guidelines for each level of heading. In general, any type of article should be written in the third person.

Paper title

The title should capture readers’ attention and focus on the study. It should accurately and sufficiently describe the object of study to attract as many readers as possible. Instead of describing the sample, it should focus on the nature of the problem under study.

Abstract: This paragraph (between 200 and 250 words) summarizes the content of the article in its original language. The abstract must (i) establish the objective and scope of the study; (ii) describe the research design or methods; (iii) summarize the most important results or findings; and (iv) draw the main conclusions. It should not contain information or conclusions that are not included in the manuscript, abbreviations, or citations.

Keywords: List between three and six key terms (preferably compound terms) separated by commas. The keywords should be strategic and cover the topics addressed in the article in order to facilitate searching and indexing.

Abstract (second language): Include a correct and accurate translation of the abstract in a second language (e.g., Spanish) following the format described above for its original-language counterpart. If you are not proficient in a second language, contact a language expert to make sure it is a high-quality translation.

Tables and figures

All the tables and figures (illustrations, graphs, pictures, images, diagrams, etc.) should be centered, 11-point Arial, and numbered consequently with Arabic numerals without abbreviations, e.g., “Table 1”, “Table 2”, “Figure 1”, and “Figure 2”. Tables and figures should be referred to in the paragraph before their position in the text.

Tables and figures should (i) include an explanatory title on top; (ii) be submitted in an editable format, not as images; and (iii) specify their source or author. Titles and sources should be in bold text. When symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters are used to identify parts of a figure or table, the meaning of the conventions should be clearly explained. This information can be included as a note below the table or figure.

References

The references should follow the APA Style Guidelines (7th Ed.) adopted by this journal. All the sources listed in this section should be correctly cited in the body of the text.

The bibliographical references should be complete and recent, preferably published in the last five years. All the references should be listed at the end of the document in alphabetical order with a hanging indent of 1.25 cm. They should not be categorized or classified by type of source. This section should not include references to the following types of sources: graduate courses or any kind of unpublished course document, unpublished books or monographs, unreliable websites (e.g., Wikipedia, monografías.com, or elrincondelvago.com), or unofficial events (forums, domestic workshops, etc.).

Conflict of interest

Authors must explicitly declare any possible conflict of financial, professional, or personal interests that may inappropriately influence the results that were obtained or the interpretations that are proposed.

Author contributions

Papers by multiple authors should include a brief paragraph specifying the contributions that each one made to the conceptualization, methodology, investigation, and writing and reviewing of the final manuscript. Maximum five co-authors are allowed. All of them must have made a substantial contribution to the study as well as the manuscript. Avoid courtesy authorship (i.e., including authors who did not make a contribution) and ghost authorship (i.e., excluding those who did make a substantial contribution).
