PRESENTACIÓN

PARA UNA TEORÍA INFORMATIVA DEL DOCUMENTO: EXTENSIÓN Y APLICABILIDAD DEL CONCEPTO

El artículo desarrolla una exhaustiva revisión del concepto de documento. Partiendo de una perspectiva informativa que entiende el documento como manifestación de un acto comunicativo, se establecen los ejes que identifican las funciones básicas de fijación y trasmisión de mensajes. La proliferación de una nueva generación de tipos de documentos obliga a revisar los componentes de los ejes básicos para verificar y ampliar el campo de validez y aplicación del concepto, constatando su suficiencia y consistencia teórica actual.

This article provides an exhaustive review of the concept of the document. Beginning with an informative perspective, which understands the document as a manifestation of an act of communication, it establishes the axes that identify the basic functions of fixation and the transmission of messages. The proliferation of a new generation of types of documents makes it necessary to revise the components of the basic axes in order to verify and expand the field of validity and application of the concept, confirming its sufficiency and its current theoretical consistency.

LA PRODUCCIÓN CIENTÍFICA LATINOAMERICANA Y LA CIENCIA MUNDIAL: UNA REVISIÓN BIBLIOGRÁFICA (1989-2003)

Con el objetivo de tener una visión general del tratamiento bibliográfico que se ha venido dando a la producción científica latinoamericana y su aporte a la ciencia mundial, se comienza haciendo un análisis del estado de las revistas científicas de la región, tanto aquellas consideradas de corriente principal de la ciencia, como las que no. Se señalan algunas de las iniciativas y proyectos que han surgido para lograr una mayor visibilidad internacional y un mayor reconocimiento a nivel nacional de dichas publicaciones. Se mencionan algunos de los factores socio-económicos que están ligados con la producción científica de cada país y cual es la relación existente entre este tipo de indicadores y la producción. Por último, se trata el estado de la producción dentro de los principales campos científicos.

In order to provide a general overview of the bibliographic coverage of Latin American scientific production and its contribution to world science, the author undertook an analysis of the state of scientific journals in the region, both those considered to be in the mainstream of science and those which are not. She also identifies some of the initiatives and projects that have enabled these publications to rise to the level of international visibility and greater recognition as well at the national level. Also mentioned are some of the socio-economic factors that are linked to scientific production in each county, as well as the relationship between this type of indicators and production. The article concludes by discussing the state of production in the principal fields of science.

COMPILACIÓN DE DATOS BIBLIOMÉTRICOS REGIONALES USANDO LAS BASES DE DATOS CLASE Y PERIÓDICA

Los datos bibliométricos para conocer la producción científica de América Latina han sido recogidos principalmente a partir de bases de datos internacionales en las cuales las revistas latinoamericanas tienen una escasa presencia. En la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México -UNAM- se han desarrollado, desde mediados de los años setenta, dos bases de datos bibliográficas: CLASE y PERIÓDICA, las cuales han recogido sistemáticamente la información de las instituciones de afiliación de los autores. Dado que estas bases de datos registran y difunden información a partir de una selección de revistas científicas y técnicas editadas en América Latina, con una cobertura multidisciplinaria, dicha información representa una masa crítica importante para conocer la productividad de las instituciones latinoamericanas y los trabajos en cooperación interinstitucional. A partir de la experiencia de producir estas bases de datos se reflexiona sobre la conveniencia de contar con bases de datos regionales, de larga pervivencia, así como sobre la utilidad de los datos compilados para generar indicadores bibliométricos regionales.

Traditionally, in order to know about scientific production in Latin American countries, bibliometric data has been harvested using mainly international databases where Latin American journals are scarcely represented. At the National University of Mexico -UNAM-, two regional databases: Clase and Periodica, have been systematically compiling data from author’s affiliation of each article indexed since its creation in the mid seventies. Both databases compile information from a selection of Latin American journals with a multidisciplinary coverage. Currently, this data represent a critical mass that allows knowing about the scientific productivity of Latin American institutions as well as their works based on international cooperation. From the experience of producing these two databases a reflection is made about the importance of having regional databases, with a long lifespan, as well as the use of all the information compiled as a source to generate regional bibliometric indicators.

LAS BIBLIOTECAS NACIONALES DE ABINIA EN INTERNET: UNA EVALUACIÓN DE SUS SITIOS WEB

Mediante el análisis a los sitios web de las bibliotecas nacionales que integran ABINIA, esta investigación establece bases generales para evaluar las páginas web, señalando la metodología, procedimientos y especialmente formula parámetros, mediante categorías y directrices, que coadyuvan a orientar la evaluación de los contenidos y diseño de un sitio web informativo.

By means of an analysis of the web sites of the national libraries that constitute ABINIA, this study establishes general criteria for evaluating those web pages, pointing out the methodology and procedures and, most of all, formulating parameters by means of criteria that assist in the content and design of an informative web site.

DEBE TENER BASES PEDAGÓGICAS EL BIBLIOTECÓLOGO DEDICADO A LA PROMOCIÓN DE LA LECTURA?

Debido a la importancia de la formación del bibliotecólogo en el campo de la promoción de la lectura, en el ámbito colombiano y latinoamericano, se presentan de manera concreta los resultados de la investigación “El Bibliotecólogo como Promotor de la Lectura y sus Bases Pedagógicas”. En primera instancia se parte de conceptos esenciales alrededor de la promoción de la lectura y su papel sociocultural, además de la importancia de la docencia y los conocimientos básicos que debe tener un bibliotecólogo promotor de la lectura en esta área. Finalmente se presenta la metodología empleada para el acopio y análisis de la información, y algunas conclusiones, propuestas y recomendaciones que pueden ser aplicadas en otros contextos regionales.

Given the importance of training the librarians of Colombia and Latin America in the promotion of reading, this article presents the results of a study entitled “The Librarian as Promoter of Reading and its Pedagogical Bases.” It begins with the basic concepts having to do with the promotion of reading and its sociological role, and then proceeds to the importance of teaching the basic concepts needed by librarians to promote reading in this area. This article concludes with the methodology used in the study, along with conclusions, proposals, and recommendations that can be utilized in other regional contexts.

LECTURA Y FORMACIÓN CIUDADANA: UN ESTUDIO APLICADO A LA ESCUELA DE ANIMACIÓN JUVENIL. MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA

Presenta algunos resultados de una investigación hecha respecto de las relaciones entre la lectura y la formación ciudadana en el contexto del trabajo con jóvenes que desarrolla la Escuela de Animación Juvenil (Medellín, Colombia). Para ello aborda la idea de lectura desde las claves comprensivas de la modernidad y se adentra en el ámbito de la formación ciudadana considerada como práctica pedagógica dentro de específicos contextos de cultura política.

This article presents the results of a study of the relationship between reading and citizen education in the context of work with young people which the School of Juvenile Animation in Medellín, Colombia, has been undertaking. For that purpose this paper considers the idea of reading from the comprehensive keys of modernity and goes into the matter of citizen education considered as a pedagogical practice within specific contexts of political culture.

BIBLIOTECA PÚBLICA: DESCRIPCIÓN DE UNA PROPUESTA METODOLÓGICA PARA LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE SU HISTORIA

El artículo presenta un panorama general de la investigación “Historia y desarrollo de la biblioteca pública en Medellín”, con énfasis en la propuesta metodológica empleada en dicha investigación. Propuesta que permitió reconstruir la historia de la biblioteca pública, tanto desde el transcurrir de los hechos sociales, como desde el conocimiento que las personas tienen de esos hechos, de los actores, sus acciones y las relaciones establecidas entre ellos, la biblioteca pública y la sociedad. Plantea, además, la necesidad de realizar trabajos investigativos que contribuyan a esclarecer y entender la biblioteca pública, de un lado, desde sus coyunturas, crisis, continuidades, tendencias y perspectivas en relación con los hechos que, desde otras sociedades y culturas la impulsaron y que hoy la identifican como institución social, y de otro, desde los diversos estudios dirigidos a conocer e interpretar procesos, lógicas, hechos, actores y aspectos históricos que han caracterizado a la biblioteca pública.

This article presents a general overview of the research project, “History and Development of the Public Library in Medellín,” with emphasis on the methodological proposal employed in this research. This approach made it possible to reconstruct the history of the public library both through social events and the knowledge that individuals have of those events—the players, their actions, and the relationship between the public library and society. This article also stresses the necessity of undertaking research projects that illuminate and help understand the public library from two points of view: (1) its turning points, its crises, its continuity, its trends, and its outlook as they relate to events that, from the point of view of other societies, drive it and identify it as a social institution; and (2) other studies designed to help understand and interpret the processes, reasoning, actions, players, and historical perspectives that have characterized the public library.
