^les^aObjetivos: 1. Explorar ideas, concepciones, y actitudes de adolescentes de ambos sexos de dos comunas de Cali, frente al uso de métodos anticonceptivos. 2. Determinar los factores que afectan el uso de los métodos anticonceptivos en las adolescentes de dos comunas de Cali. Metodología: Se realizaron grupos focales con adolescentes embarazadas y sus compañeros adolescentes, mujeres adolescentes no embarazadas y sus amigos, varones adolescentes. Resultados: Se organizaron los resultados con base en el Modelo PRECEDE - PROCEDE. El desconocimiento, el proyecto de vida, el temor y la responsabilidad son temas que se destacan en los resultados. Discusión: La sexualidad es un tema tabú. Es necesario colocarlo en la agenda pública. El desconocimiento y las actitudes desfavorables sobre anticonceptivos son obstáculo para su uso, tal como se ha reportado en otros estudios. La maternidad como máxima realización es aún un aspecto que se refuerza en las mujeres. Conclusiones: Los jóvenes necesitan superar la información errónea que han recibido y requieren orientación y estímulo que les ayuden a adoptar sus propias decisiones. Es importante fomentar la conciencia de la maternidad, no como una cuestión de las mujeres únicamente, sino como un asunto de pareja.^len^aObjectives: 1- To explore ideas and attitudes regarding the use of contraceptive methods by adolescents from two "comunas" in the city of Cali. 2- To determine factors that hinder the practice of contraceptive methods. Methodology: Focal groups of pregnant adolescents and their partners, and adolescent not pregnant and their male friends from Cali city were studied. The analysis was made by groups and by "comunas". Results: It was found that the lack of knowledge, the life project, responsibility and fear were issues considered in the results. The model PRECEDE-PROCEDE for organizing the data was utilized. Discussion: Sexuality still is a taboo theme deserving awareness it in the public agenda. Lack of knowledge and negative attitudes are obstacles for using contraceptives. This has been reported also by other authors. Maternity is considered by women as a source of life fulfilment. It is important to stress that maternity is not alone for the woman and that it should involve the partner as well Conclusions: Young people need to overcome misconceptions. To decide for themselves they require orientation and encouragement. It is important to stress that maternity is not for women alone since it is the entire responsibility of couples
