VILLAMARIN, Pablo de Carlos; DOMINGUEZ VILA, Trinidad    ALEN GONZALEZ, Elisa. PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF SPANISH COASTAL DESTINATIONS THROUGH THE EVOLUTION OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND ACCOMMODATION. []. , 26, 59, pp.137-154. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v26n59.54368.

The first decade of XXI Century has been challenging for traditional tourist destinations such as Spanish islands and seaside areas. In recent years, these traditional destinations have been involved in an intense competition with the new destinations that offer similar attractions. All this within the context of a global tourism market defined by the influence of the new information and communication technologies and increasingly heterogeneous and demanding tourists. This work expects to analyze, by using multivariate statistical techniques, the development on the performance of the main Spanish seaside tourist destinations over the period 2000-2010, based on the information provided by the Hotel Occupancy Survey about supply and demand accommodation in hotels from these areas. Results show an opposite behavior of the variables of supply and demand during the reviewed decade. Additionally, three distinct clusters of destinations were identified according to their performance level.
