BATISTA DA SILVA, Eliel; RAMALHO DE SOUZA, Paulo Agusto    NADER, Renato. TRENDS IN THE INTERNET OF THINGS: A PATENT STUDY. []. , 31, 81, pp.49-59.   03--2021. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v31n81.95572.

This paper maps out the profile of patents linked to the Internet of things (IOT) in an attempt to identify clusters or possible trends in these patents' deposits that could possibly boost the development of new products and services through innovation. The data source was the Derwent Innovations Index. Through a patentometric study, we sought to understand possible trends in these internationally published patent deposits. To do so, we applied a quantitative, exploratory, bibliometric, patentometric, and longitudinal methodology, consolidating the analysis of published patents in order to establish IOT perspectives and trends. The search allowed to identify 12,855 patents on IOT, showing, among other information, that the area of mobile terminals is in an upward curve, while temperature monitors patents are in decline. This study advances by consolidating and prospecting technological paths regarding IOT.
