Since the First World Assembly on Aging (1982), older people have been on the international agenda as a result of a growing concern about the challenges of population aging. Since then, numerous national and international legal instruments have sought to guarantee their rights. Based on a documentary research strategy and a systematic legal interpretation exercise, the text describes these sources of law. Finding that protection has been scattered and insufficient, the challenges to be faced for effective protection of the rights of the elderly of cu rrent and future generations are presented.
