PINO RODRIGUEZ, Nancy J; CARVAJAL, Stephanie; GALLO, Andrés    PENUELA, Gustavo. Comparison between biostimulation and bioaugmentation to recover soils contaminated with diesel. []. , 7, 1, pp.101-108. ISSN 1909-0455.

Introduction. Diesel is a contaminating hydrocarbon that can come to environmental matrices via several sources, and produce high environmental damage. Objective. To evaluate bioremediation with biostimulation and bioaugmentation as a methodology to recover soils contaminated with diesel. Materials and methods. The tests were performed with soil samples obtained from a place with a contamination historical record. 4 approaches were taken: natural attenuation, bioaugmentation with microorganisms isolated from the ground, biostimulation with nutrients and banana peels. Results. The microorganisms and hydrocarbon concentrations were monitored during 30 days, and the best treatment was that of the nutrient addition with banana peels, achieving a 93% of degradation, the highest one in comparison to the other treatments. Conclusion. The results suggest that an adequate application of nutrients contributes to the development of the microbial population in the soil with diesel degradation capacity, increasing the process' effectiveness.
