RODRIGUEZ ORTEGA, Julio Armando. The paradigm of democracy has died. []. , 5, 2, pp.181-196. ISSN 2145-7719.

The paradigm of representative democracy, a concept universally known as Western democracy whose original scheme began with the French Revolution has become unworkable, would be missing their mark and therefore its legitimacy. His dogmatic figures such as the separation of the branches of government, the principle of majorities, representation, participation, consultation, assemblies, sovereignty, the declaration of the people's will, are illusory, not capture its true dimension and one could argue that this paradigm is dead. The difficulties, weaknesses and failures of formal democracy to real democracy, including the classic theme of the theory of elites, the privileged groups, those in power, governance, transparency, economic interests and legitimacy the majority principle are part of the many contradictions in a democratic society, which ultimately is reduced to processes of domination and rhetoric for their birth defects, their questions, their limitations, but especially difficult to resolve moves the clash of interests and gaps in conventional theories. The participation of citizens in the so-called democracy is reduced to mere electoral activity and elected or those in power manage the state as if it were their own heritage.

: Democracy; legitimacy; majorities; real democracy; formal democracy.
