Abstract
ATEHORTUA CRUZ, Adolfo León. Rojas' coup d'etat and the power of army men. Folios [online]. 2010, n.31, pp.33-48. ISSN 0123-4870.
The rising of army men into politics, after April the 9th, 1948, finally gave the power to Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, in 1953. The coup d'etat was announced, consented and favored on the part of the civil elite. Nevertheless, once in power, Rojas moved away from the traditional leadership and parties, and turned his government into a dictatorship of more personal character, different even from military style. His purpose did not resist the elite´s attacks. Gómez and Lleras headed the pact that finally concluded in Rojas' fall, in 1957. This came without the total resignation on the part of the army men who, sometimes divided, tried to continue in power or restore Rojas. The present paper describes questions and analyzes those facts under the military point of view
