Abstract
RINCON CAMACHO, Lida; SANABRIA RODRIGUEZ, Luis Bayardo and LOPEZ VARGAS, Omar. Approximation to a Model of Self-Regulation in Academic Writing from Protocol Analysis. Folios [online]. 2016, n.43, pp.59-76. ISSN 0123-4870.
This paper presents an analysis to understand and to explain the evidence of possible cognitive and self-regulatory behaviors while performing an academic writing task, through the verbal protocol analysis, as a methodology to identify and describe these behaviors. The study consisted of four subjects -college students- of which three cases were analyzed. Frequencies of occurrence of cognitive and self-regulatory processes are examined, in order to explain the articulation between cognitive, motivational and behavioural factors during composition tasks. From the study, it was established that the observed subjects used more revision strategies at the local level (check spelling, grammar and punctuation) than planning strategies. In addition, it was observed that in the planning phase, they usually focus on the basic levels of processing, that is, the search for sequence segments joined to form sentences. To a lesser extent it was evidence of higher levels of planning found, that take into account rhetorical elements. These results are compared with previous studies.
