Abstract

SERRANO-C., Olga Rocío. Lexical and Terminological Semantic Analysis. Folios [online]. 2018, n.47, pp.153-163. ISSN 0123-4870.

In this review paper, we present some of the procedures used in both lexical semantics and terminology in order to define and describe the linguistic and terminological units. These analyzes are the basis for students or professionals who wish to start projects for the creation of monolingual, bilingual or multilingual dictionaries or terminologies. First, we introduce the concepts of lexicology and terminology, and then we explain such analyzes. Each of them employs precise vocabulary. Thus, in the field of semantics, the authors speak of a semantic or semantic-lexical analysis that aims to describe the meaning of words. In terminology, on the contrary, they mainly refer to a conceptual analysis. Finally, we conclude by citing possible applications deriving from these theories and through which lexical competence and metalinguistic competence could be further developed.

Keywords : Lexical semantic analysis; terminological analysis; seme; characteristics.
