Abstract

PATINO ROJAS, Diana Marcela; CONDE BORRERO, Cindy  and  ESPINOSA GONZALEZ, Liana. Beliefs and Perceptions from Students on the Intercultural Communicative Competence of the Bachelor's Program in Foreign Languages at Universidad del Valle. Folios [online]. 2021, n.53, pp.123-144.  Epub Nov 18, 2021. ISSN 0123-4870.  https://doi.org/10.17227/folios.53-8001.

The main objective of this research paper is to identify the beliefs and perceptions about the concept of intercultural communicative competence from students of the bachelor's program in Foreign Languages at Universidad del Valle. Considering the theoretical perspectives of Byram, Liddicoat and Scarino, this mixed case study seeks to establish a clear picture of this issue in order to make future intervention proposals, which imply changes on the designs of the program's syllabi. The results of this research enable us to confirm that there is a positive impact of the work on the cultural component in language courses; however there is still a need to integrate teaching strategies that allow students to develop intercultural skills that go beyond declarative knowledge about culture.

Keywords : Foreign languages; teachers in training; Intercultural Communicative Competence; beliefs; perceptions.
