Abstract

RODRIGUEZ BERMUDEZ, Melisa  and  GIRALDO ORTIZ, John Jairo. An approach to phytonyms in the Tikuna language from the terminological perspective. Leng. [online]. 2022, vol.50, n.1, pp.1-36.  Epub Jan 18, 2022. ISSN 0120-3479.  https://doi.org/10.25100/lenguaje.v50i1.11116.

This paper is an approach to the terminological study of Tikuna phytonymy. Specifically, we propose a methodological design based on the Communicative Theory of Terminology (CTT). Owing to this approach, embedded in applied linguistics, two main results have been attained. On the one hand, a monolingual term database (TD) has been compiled including 206 phytonyms in Spanish with equivalents in Tikuna and Latin (scientific name). On the other hand, a qualitative and quantitative description of the phytonyms collected in the TD is achieved. Thus, this proposal involves the observation of different phenomena, such as aboriginal language borrowings, neology, dialectal variation, etc., which are of terminological interest, in particular, and of linguistic interest, in general.

Keywords : Tikuna; phytonyms; terminology; corpus; ethnolinguistics.
