Abstract
VEGA-ESTARITA, Lina and BARRIOS, Marta-Milena. Literary Journalism in the Colombian Caribbean: Ernesto McCausland Sojo and the Continued Existence of the Chronicle. Signo pensam. [online]. 2016, vol.35, n.69, pp.84-99. ISSN 0120-4823. https://doi.org/10.11144/Javeriana.syp35-69.plcc.
Based on a thematic analysis, this research explored the relevance of chronicle among Latin-American journalists and audiences, in a time where immediacy has taken over newsrooms. Studying thirteen texts of the Colombian journalist Ernesto McCausland Sojo allowed us to identify a wide range of topics and an alternative narrative style. The results showed universal issues such as life, death, triumph, and failure; they brought the Colombian north coast people - costeño - into a reality full of magic, humor, and music; and found differentiating features in the style of the chronicles of the author. McCausland was a multimedia journalist who successfully mixed elements from cinema, literature, poetry, journalism, and music into his stories, and brought new vigor to this genre as an alternative to the frantic journalism of the digital era.
