Abstract
CASTRO-TORRES, Ivonne Edith and MENDEZ-ORTIZ, Edwin Leonardo. Relevant innovation factors existing in educational institutions of the higher educational sector in Colombia during the years 2014 - 2015. Rev. esc.adm.neg [online]. 2019, n.86, pp.35-55. ISSN 0120-8160. https://doi.org/10.21158/01208160.n86.2019.2289.
This research article aims at estimating the determinant factors of innovation in higher education institutions (HEI) in Colombia during the years 2014- 2015, by using the Ordered Multinomial Logit model, in which the types of innovation that are considered by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE by its abbreviation in Spanish) are organized by categories, giving 0 to those institutions with no innovation, 1 to those showing an intention to innovate, 2 to those potentially innovative, 3 to those showing a wide range of innovation outcomes, and 4 to those having innovations in the strict sense.
For this, data and figures taken from the development and technological innovation poll in the services and trading sector during the years 2014 and 2015 were considered, involving 231 higher education institutions, which means that the estimation that was made was based on the number of participants rather than a chosen sample.
Similarly, the independent variables were categorized into three groups: innovative effort, external leverage, and innovation obstacles. It was found that most of these variables are relevant and are consistent with the hypothesis stated for this research study.
Finally, the likelihood of event that each innovation category has in some Colombian representative higher education institutions is established, as well as the effects caused by each factor belonging to each innovation category.
