Abstract

ROJANO, Benjamín A et al. ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF THE ISOESPINTANOL IN DIFFERENT MEDIA. Vitae [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.1, pp.173-181. ISSN 0121-4004.

Isoespintanol (2-Isopropil-3,6-dimetoxi-5-metilfenol) was isolated from Oxandra cf xylopioides and studied using different experimental models designed to assess antioxidant properties. The results indicated that isoespintanol is better reducing than BHT in the FRAP assay. In emulsified system, discoloration of β-carotene and lipid peroxidation induced by Fe / ascorbate in the kinetic assay DPPH has similar antioxidant behaviors. BHT is better free radicals DPPH and ABTS scavenger than isoespintanol, but both of then did not scavenge superoxide anion and inhibit significantly xanthine oxidase.

Keywords : Oxandra cf xylopioides; isoespintanol; free radical; antioxidant activity; peroxidation; BHT.
