Abstract

BLAIR TRUJILLO, Elsa. Testimonies or Narratives of Memory(ies). Estud. Polit. [online]. 2008, n.32, pp.85-115. ISSN 0121-5167.

This article develops a theoretical reflection on one of the central axes of the problems of victims: testimony or the narratives of memory(ies). In a first moment it addresses some aspects that help to clarify the possibilities and limitations of these narratives since their antecedents, which pass from the ''act of testifying'' to clarifying their political potential and their place in the public arena. In the second part, supported fundamentally by Ricoeur, the author presents an analysis on the narrative character of testimony. In the third and last part on the basis of work done by three Latin-American authors, E. Jelin, C. Feld and L. Da Silva Catela, the author proposes a methodological construction of the ''act of testifying'' in contexts marked by war and violence.

Keywords : Collective Memory; Testimonies; War Victims; Historical Memory.
