Abstract

With the last political reform of the Third Democratic Wave many legal frames and new Political Constitutions in the world are indicative a return of making decisión mechanisms supported on direct consultation to citizenship. In this respect, the central purpose of the article has been consider over from a strictly theoretical level the potential those haves direct democracy institutions to increase the governmental receptivity and social accountability. The analysis consisted of the use of a deductive strategy which considered the theoretical approaches of accountability and deliberative as theories base to describe the renewed force of the referendum, citizen's initiative, and the recall at present. Since result of the analysis is possible to hope that direct democracy institutions generate an empowerment of the people, however it goes to depend on the frequency of use that the citizenship does of the above mentioned institutions and of the real efficiency of your mechanisms for the control of the politicians.
