Abstract

GOMEZ BETANCUR, Milany Andrea; SANCHEZ ESCUDERO, Juan Pablo  and  RINCON ZAPATA, Carolina. Political Behavior, Emotional or Rational? The Case of the Mayoral Elections in Rionegro, Antioquia, 2019. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2023, n.66, pp.73-100.  Epub June 27, 2023. ISSN 0121-5167.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n66a04.

Studies of political behavior indicate that when citizens choose a political option, they can do it emotionally and rationally. Based on the theory of affective intelligence and cognitive assessment, this research tries to understand the emotional and rational factors valued by the voters from Rionegro, Antioquia. For this purpose, a cross-sectional study is carried out with a correlational-explanatory level, which establishes predictive models of rational behavior based on emotions. The results show that there are positive emotions that explain the election, which is consistent with the theory of affective intelligence, however, it is also evidenced that positive emotions lead voters to rational behaviors.

Keywords : Political Behavior; Elections; Emotions; Rationality; Rionegro, Antioquia.
