Abstract

Maldevelopment of the Mullerian ducts are a group of heterogeneous anomalies that occur in a variety of forms like Mullerian agenesis, disgenesis, vaginal septum, unicornuate uterus, didelphic, bicornuate, septate, and arcuate. They usually come to medical attention when become problematic with primary amenorrhea, sexual dysfunction, masses and pelvic pain, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, infection, recurrent abortion, or preterm deliveries. However it is possible to fine nearly 50% of asymptomatic symmetric uterine alterations. The symptomatic Mullerian anomalies require surgical correction, after a comprehensive preoperative evaluation to understand fully the possible diagnoses. This review outlines the diverse abnormalities, etiologies, modes of diagnosis, and treatment options according with the author experience in the department of Obstetric and Gynecology, Hospital Militar, Bogotá, and the current literature available for Mullerian anomalies and pregnancy.
