Abstract

First record of the leafscale gulper shark Centrophorus squamosus (Bonnaterre) (Chondrichthyes: Centrophoridae) in the Colombian Caribbean. Bol. Invest. Mar. Cost. This article presents the first record of Centrophorus squamosus for the Colombian Caribbean. This species is known to occupy bathypelagic habitats between 145 and 4000 m depth; its main feature is the shape and arrangement of its dermal denticles. The specimen found was caught with longline near Punta Polno, La Guajira department. This is the first evidence of the occurrence of this species in Colombian Caribbean offshore waters.
