The psychological contract is relevant to understand the behavior and well-being of workers. This investigation analyzes the effect of the violation of the psychological contract upon the employee's cynicism through a mediation of emotional exhaustion. For this purpose, a quantitative, empirical and cross-sectional design research was performed. This was done through a personal poll to workers in the export automotive industry in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Employing a structural equation analysis it was found that the violation of the psychological contract affects employee's cynicism in both direct and indirect ways, through a mediation of emotional exhaustion.
