Abstract
GEMPELER RUEDA, Juanita. Photographic History of the Body, Exposure and Response Prevention and Sensory Integration as Integrated Therapeutic Tools in the Flexibilization of Body Image Distortion in Eating Disorders. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.1, pp.9-20. ISSN 0034-7450.
Body image distortion is a central phenomenon in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, nevertheless it is quite interesting to see that despite its central role in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this disease, only a few authors have been working on it, generating some evaluation and intervention tools. The purpose of the present article is to review the intervention strategies designed to approach body image distortion in eating disorders and to propose an alternative one, based on the clinical work that has been done at Equilibrio (an outpatient program for the evaluation and treatment of eating disorders). This alternative strategy includes exposition of the subject to his own body photographic history, exposure and response prevention techniques and sensory integration as integrated therapeutic tools in order to correct the body image distortion, diminishing the risk of relapse. Theoretical and practical bases are presented.
