Abstract
DEXTER, KRISTINA VAN. PAZ CON LA SELVA. Maguare [online]. 2021, vol.35, n.2, pp.161-196. Epub Mar 23, 2023. ISSN 0120-3045. https://doi.org/10.15446/mag.v35n2.98462.
This essay navigates through the living forests of the Colombian Amazon, reflecting on what we have inherited in times of "peace" as it unfolds in a context of increasing violence and deforestation. The signing of the peace agreement in Colombia in 2016 marked the end of a decade-long war between the government and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), but it also meant another war against the selva. This essay draws on ethnographic research in Putumayo, Colombia, to explore how the selva has participated as a victim and witness of violence, while calling attention to the ways in which human and non-human lives (and deaths) are inevitably intertwined in the forging of peace.
Keywords : deforestation; ecocide; earthly memory; ethical dialogue; more-than-human; peace; selva.
