Intervenciones no farmacológicas para la depresión en pacientes con falla cardíaca: una revisión sistemáticaNon-pharmacological interventions for depression in patients with heart failure: a systematic review. Rev. Colomb. Cardiol. [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.4, pp.171-179. Epub Sep 06, 2023. ISSN 0120-5633. https://doi.org/10.24875/rccar.22000093.
Background:
In advanced stages of heart failure, the prevalence of depressive illness can exceed 50%, which is associated with a worse clinical state, also increasing medical care costs.
Objective:
To identify and synthesize the most effective non-pharmacological interventions for the treatment of depression in patients with heart failure.
Method:
Studies published up to September 2021 involving depression and hear failure were identified by reviewing main databases. Two authors independently carried out the selection of the literature found.
Results:
Cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise were the most commonly used non-pharmacological interventions for depressive symptoms in patients with heart failure, with moderate to large effect sizes (Cohen’s d between 0.5 and 3.4).
Conclusion:
In patients with heart failure, cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise were shown to be better than usual care for depressive symptoms.
