Abstract
PENA ALMANZA, Zaine Yulieth and RIVERA GARCIA, Henry Leonardo. Food non-attendance in the Ubaté Valley in Cundinamarca- Colombia according to men's social representations. Prolegómenos [online]. 2023, vol.26, n.51, pp.69-86. Epub Oct 17, 2023. ISSN 0121-182X. https://doi.org/10.18359/prole.6366.
This article is the result of an investigation that sought to analyze the relationship between men's social representations of food non-attendance and their commitment to their duties towards their sons and daughters in compliance with and guaranteeing their rights. This research took place in the Villa de San Diego de Ubaté, a municipality located in the south ofthe department of Cundinamarca, Colombia, where an exploration of the subject was carried out with the participation of ten men who, as fathers, provided relevant information. The data were collected from semi-structured interviews that were transcribed and analyzed based on the theories provided by the documentary review carried out on the subject. From this analysis, it was concluded that the participants expressed conceptions and actions that reflect non-compliance with parental responsibilities associated with food assistance to their children. This shows a problem derived from and embedded in a patriarchal model. This model has traditionally defined specific roles for men that, in particular, oblige them to provide for the basic needs of the household while at the same time hindering paternal practices oriented towards the guarantee and integral protection of the rights of children and adolescents.
