BENATTI ANTUNES, Marcos et al. Breastfeeding within the first hour after birth: knowledge and practice of multidisciplinary team. av.enferm. [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.1, pp.19-29. ISSN 0121-4500. https://doi.org/10.15446/av.enferm.v35n1.43682.
Objective: To evaluate the knowledge and practice about breastfeeding within the first hour after birth among members of the multiprofessional team of a hospital in the municipality of Maringá, Paraná. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study. The data were collected between October and November of 2013, through interviews recorded with 11 participants. For the data treatment, the content analysis technique was used. Results: Weaknesses in the knowledge of health professionals about breastfeeding within the first hour after birth were found. On the other hand, the practice does not take place in the health institution, revealing challenges and suggestions for the implementation of this custom. Conclusion: It is recommended that this practice be included in hospital policies to promote and protect breastfeeding, which strengthen the multiprofessional team and the collaborative working among its members.
