Abstract
BOHORQUEZ-MONTOYA, Juan Pablo. Transnationalism and Transnational Labor History: Toward a Theoretical Synthesis. Pap.polit. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.1, pp.273-301. ISSN 0122-4409.
This paper makes a synthesis of the contributions made by transnational theory -mainly sociological and anthropological theory- to understand the contemporary social phenomena that transcend national boundaries. Thus, it examines the contributions of this theory in the era of globalization and points out its limits, also; limits which might be overcome by means of restoring an historical overview of all the social phenomena encompassed in such theoretical body. It argues, too, that transnational labor history must be included in the general theory of transnationalism in order to reinstate labor as a crucial category of contemporary social analysis.
Keywords : Transnationalism; transnational labor history; methodological nationalism; globalization; labor; Transnationalism; Labor and laboring classes; Nationalism.
