Abstract
FERNANDEZ-ALONSO, JOSE LUIS. Studies in Labiatae - VI. Hybridization in the genus Salvia in Colombia and the horticultural relevance. Caldasia [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.1, pp.21-48. ISSN 0366-5232.
Two new hybrids from colombian species of the genus Salvia, Labiatae are described and the ornamental relevance are discussed. One, spontaneously derived from two cultivated species of Salvia sections Angulatae and Rubescentes and comments are made anout the floral biology. The second, is a natural hybrid of two wild species of Salvia section Hastatae. Chorological, ecological and horticultural comment on the hybrid previously described as S. x rociana Fern. Alonso (derived from species of the sections Flexuosae and Secundae), is provided. Hyhibridization in Colombian Salvia is noted as an important factor in speciation, associated with habitat shifts and areas of frequent disturbance.
