Abstract

MANCO JARABA, Dino Carmelo; ROJAS MARTINEZ, Elías Ernesto  and  GOMEZ, Benito Armando. Petrographic study of the limestone deposit in the municipality of la Paz, department of Cesar. Prospect. [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.2, pp.82-89. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v12i2.292.

On the hill in the municipality of La Paz, César, outcrop stratigraphic sequences of sedimentary carbonate rocks interbedded with thin shales and calcite veinlets belonging to the Cogollo group. In order to know the mineralogical composition of the outcropping limestone, paleoenvironmental conditions and industrial use , we proceeded to a study of surface geology , consisting of lithostratigraphic description of the exposed rocks , apiques and sampling site in a total of 6 samples ( LP-1 LP-2 LP- 3 LP-4 LP-5, LP-6) along the hill, which were taken 4 to go forward for studies, two of this 4 sample were selected for petrographic analysis practiced in laboratories petrographic analysis and the remaining two for X-ray diffraction. The results of the studies allowed to establish that the hill were formed from two marine environments , one neritic and the other bathyal, thus giving rise to biomicriticas limestone, micritic and dismicritas quantitatively and qualitatively are composed of 95 % calcium carbonate , silica 0.6% amorphous and others 4.40% . The NTC 5163 (ICONTEC) translation rules to the standard ASTM C 51-02 and NTC 4915 (ICONTEC) equivalent to reference ASTM C 911-99, these limestones are suitable for the manufacture of cement and stone aggregate
