Abstract
ROJAS-BETANCUR, Héctor Mauricio; MENDEZ-VILLAMIZAR, Raquel and RODRIGUEZ-PRADA, Ángela. The city in its children. Quality of life from a child's perspective. Entramado [online]. 2013, vol.9, n.2, pp.192-202. ISSN 1900-3803.
This research work provides a review of the quality of life from the perspective of children in an urban setting, focusing on subjective aspects. A study was carried out with 166 children from the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia, using structured surveys of the perception of the quality of life in the city. It emphasizes the construction of a multifaceted concept in the immediate urban experience of children and a generalized concern of children for urban environmental issues, personal safety, and a felt need for more schools and recreational facilities. It also discusses the children's complaint about the lack of civic culture in multiple expressions. It draws a conclusion as to how the concept of quality of life during childhood is seldom associated with being, but rather with having or lacking an aspect that is considered to be important.
