Abstract

The article offers an exploratory study on different ways of living, for a brief period, in the middle of nature, which articulate forms of mobility and accommodation in leisure practices. Specifically, the article makes focus on the incorporation of car camping - the organization of private campings, free camping and the development of camper vans - to detect how travelers have tried to separate themselves from the civilized world and, at the same time, used resources from their material culture to domesticate nature and have a comfortable stay. It will identify their motives, analyze some of their typological-technological characteristics and interpret the symbolic value they had in the development of Argentine tourism. This search will be connected by a more sensitive dimension so as to interpret how the strategies of connecting with the landscape activated perceptions, while mobilizing the camper's own awareness, both at the individual and social level. The resource that underpins the argumentative advances is given by a qualitative methodology and the study of illustrated periodical publications and photographs of public archives and collections of digital images.
