Abstract
DIAS-TRINDADE, Sara; MOREIRA, José Antonio and RIGO, Rosa Maria. Cinema as a pedagogical resource to promote engagement in higher education. Prax. Saber [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.29, pp.111-123. Epub Oct 16, 2021. ISSN 2216-0159. https://doi.org/10.19053/22160159.v12.n29.2021.11934.
The use of cinema in the educational context brings opportunities in an upward spiral, bringing out senses and meanings for a new and exciting learning. From the multiple interpretations of the same scenario, the use of cinema allows many stories to be revealed, questioned and immortalized, which leads to new positions, new dialogues or new questions, which result in new learning. Based on these premises, this article aims to analyze whether the use of cinema in educational contexts is able to promote and increase levels of emotional, physical and cognitive engagement. Using a qualitative methodology, the results, based on the students' perceptions, reveal that the use of cinema as a pedagogical resource has very positive effects on the different dimensions of engagement at the emotional, physical, and cognitive levels, on the exchange of knowledge, on the appreciation of the opinion of peers, on motivation, on the connection with the learning community and on the interest in the programmatic content. The implications of the results are discussed, both from the point of view of practical intervention in terms of education, as well as in terms of possible theoretical contributions.
