Abstract

PAEZ BARAHONA, Andrés Felipe. Urban agroecology in front of climate change. Contribution to agroecological land-use planning in cities. Rev. Ciudades Estados Política [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.3, pp.35-50.  Epub Dec 14, 2021. ISSN 2462-9103.

A time ago, climate change stopped to be an opinion to become a fact. The crisis demands strong actions beyond the current governmental agreements, palliatives of the public opinion that evade the real causes of this phenomenon, therefore, cities must change their passivity by relegating the direct causes of climate change to external factors. Agro-industrial production, which is located in the rural system, perfectly exemplifies this situation; it is a consequence of the centralized massification of an urban consumption system. In this regard, it is presented from the agroecological planning, a proposal to organize urban territories based on their territorial weave, focused on the reconfiguration of power relations around agri-food supply cycles and how these trigger cultural and ecosystemic transformations in the city, thus enabling the development of scalable action plans at the local, regional and global level to collectively confront the climate change.

Keywords : urban agroecosystems; global warming; environmental dimension; main ecological structure; cultural platform.
