Abstract

Normal pressure hydrocephalus is an obstructive but communicating hidrocephalus, with reversible dementia. Its prevalence fluctuates between 1 and 6% of all dementias, about 0.41% in people older than 65 years. Most cases have idiopathic ethiology; other causes include subarachnoid hemorahage, cranioencephalic trauma and neoplastic and inflamatory diseases. Classic symptomalic trial: motor disturbance, dementia and incontinence. Diagnosis is based on clinics, scanographic imaging and magnetic nuclear resonance. Surgical treatment (deprivation) and predisposing factors of good response are describer.
