Abstract

ROSAS, OMAR. The Dispositional Structure of Sentiments. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2011, vol.60, n.145, pp.5-31. ISSN 0120-0062.

On the basis of the appraisal theory of emotions developed by Frijda and his colleagues, the article argues that sentiments may be understood as partially isomorphic to emotions, whose main characteristic is the disposition of individuals to believe in their emotional experiences and to act in accordance with them. It also explores the criteria that make it possible to differentiate sentiments from other types of dispositions such as moods and character traits. Finally, it underscores the relevance of this research for political and moral philosophy.

Keywords : N. Frijda; dispositions; emotions; sentiments.
