This article discloses research which addresses the relationships constructed by three diabetic women - whose medical treatment includes insulin therapy - with their chronic condition. This relationship is fundamentally explained with reference to the ternary real, imaginary and symbolic put forward by the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan. Furthermore, the study examines the types of relationships established regarding diabetes within medical practice. In terms of methodology, the study opted for a qualitative approach and used in-depth interviews.
