This article discusses the importance of Group Social Work in capacity building and the achievement of common objectives, based on the case study of the Disability Committee of a municipality in Boyacá, Colombia.
The methodology is qualitative; focus group techniques, participant observation, and semi-structured telephone interviews were used. In the research process, it was identified that Group Social Work is a method that surpasses the traditional components of the profession and is located in a broader context, critical, political, and ethical context toward the joint construction of opportunities for human development. As a result of this exercise, a technical concept was developed and presented to the municipality with recommendations for updating the Public Policy on Disability with regard to the rights to education, work, and social security.
