Abstract
ARIZA, Juan Sebastián. Remedies or Poisons? Approach to the use Yerbateria as the Healing Method in the New Kingdom of Granada During the Eighteenth Century. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.2, pp.315-333. ISSN 0122-2066.
During the 17th and 18th centuries there were several cases presented to the court of justice of the New Kindgdom of Granada, which alleged that several people were exercising the healing arts without the appropriate medical titles. By then, it was believed that those who used herbs as therapeutic methods should be judged as yerbateros-poisoners. The document states that the criminal processes of poisoning are a prism in which different problems of the colonial period converge, such as medical trades, magical-religious beliefs, woman's ideal and delinquency, among others.
Keywords : criminality; yerbatería; poisoning; New Kindgdom of Granada.
