Abstract
RODRIGUEZ-ALARCON, María Nazareth. Jojutla De Juárez, Morelos- Mexico: Historical Process Of Configuration Of A Perurban Context. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.27-59. Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v27n2-2022002.
In the last century, Jojutla has become a commercial center for the southern region of the state of Morelos, Mexico. This city was founded on pre-Hispanic settlements, and throughout its history it was characterized by agricultural production, mainly sugar cane and rice. After the Mexican Revolution, important transformations took place due to the intensification of commercial activity, the demographic increase and urban intervention policies. The objective of the article is, precisely, to reconstruct the historical process that delineated Jojutla to its current peculiarities and, at the same time, to expose the complexity that involves the rural / urban dichotomy when this social context is defined. The analysis is based on data emanating from the articulation and comparison of sources of historical and ethnographic information, in terms of long duration, and from a critical discussion based on the notions of territorial configuration and periurbanization.
