DIAZ-RICO, Jhojan Alejandro. Migration, Labor, and Nation. The place of Colombia in the studies on Migration to Latin America. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.219-258. Epub Dec 02, 2022. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v27n2-2022009.
In this paper, I analyze some of the most important works about migrations to Latin America; I sketch a general framework of those works and place the historiography on migration to Colombia in that framework. I identify two perspectives of analysis. A socioeconomic one, which emerges in 1990, which it focuses on the immigrants' labor activities. The second one, which develops a sociocultural perspective, emerges in 2000 and studies how the racialized ideals of the creation of the Latin American nations influenced the reception and integration of the immigrants in the region. The historiography of migrations to Colombia is framed, mostly, in the first perspective, due it analyzed the causes of the migrations and the immigrants' labor activities. However, it is possible to find some new approaches that redirect the migratory studies towards the ideals of the Colombian nation in the early twenty cen tury.
