REYES, Sofía Crespo. Women's catholic activism in Mexico during the Cristera War. The experience of the organization called Union of Mexican Catholic Ladies (1926-1929). Hist. Caribe [online]. 2023, vol.18, n.43, pp.67-97. Epub Dec 26, 2023. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.43.2023.3719.
This article analyzes the activities of the Union of Mexican Catholic Ladies (UDCM) organization during the Cristera War. With this purpose in mind, the article shows the way in which women's activism managed to build networks of sociability and solidarity that allowed them to radicalize their political activities and be opposed to the anticlerical secularism of post-revolutionary governments. With the help of documents created by State Intelligence Service agents, this article exhibits the political actions of a daily nature, which, although they appear to be ordinary, reflect the ability of women to organize themselves in defense of their religious practices.
