This reflection paper explores the concept of tourism sustainability to give new meaning to the ways of exercising free time and to explore tools rural development. A simple case study was carried out, with a qualitative approach, with the intention of addressing an empirical reference on new paradigms of tourism, which are part of the logic of quality free time, communality and the social and solidarity economy. It is concluded that the decolonial perspective in tourism is a way of giving new meaning to free time in the context of the current crisis of civilization and that it may represent a characteristic feature 21st century tourism.
