Abstract

LEAL, Luisa  and  GARCIA, Adela. Considerations around security and criminal policy in Venezuela. Rev. Crim. [online]. 2013, vol.55, n.1, pp.49-66. ISSN 1794-3108.

This article exposes the implications of the security issue in the development of exclusionist social control models, taking into account that security, where conceived as risk management, constitutes a rationality having been implemented in the central axis of the globalized society's criminal policy. Likewise, some problem facing public policies on security in Venezuela are identified. Reflections likely to help delimit alternative models in harmony with democratic values for social coexistence are offered, the starting point of which would be an interpretation not leading to criminalize the conflicts within the framework of principles and constitutional guarantees. The design of this research pertains to a methodology based on documentary methodology. For the review and analysis of indicators reflecting the Venezuelan sociopolitical context, data from secondary sources were collected.

Keywords : Security measures; criminal policy; social control; community; victim.
