Abstract

BAZAN RIVERON, Georgina E.; PAREDES RIVERA, Mirna Patricia  and  OSORIO GUZMAN, Maricela. Multidisciplinary workshop for pediatric patients with asthma and their parents based on the international guide for asthma management (GINA). Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.1, pp.111-117. ISSN 1794-4724.

The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of life of patients with asthma doing a workshop based on the International Guide for the Handling of the Asthma (GINA). A group of 10 patients with ages from 1,5 to 6 years and his parents participated in this study, which was transverse with a pretest-postest design with a witness group. The multidisciplinary workshop for children with asthma and their parents deals with topics like: adhesion, support treatment, and crisis assistance. The duration of this revision was five hours. The results, regarding the statistician t of Student, show that both the witness and experimental groups are homogeneous in the pretest; likewise, it was proven that in the experimental group the change between the pretest and postest is significant for the indicators: not programmed visits t = 0,000206037, parents knowledge t = 0,000727699, crisis t = 0,000135318 and risk factors t = 0,000003192 (for all cases p < 0,01). The behavior of the witness group is also analyzed this way and it is demonstrated that it does not have significant changes. However, significant differences are found in the comparison between the posttest of the witness and the experimental group. The conclusions are focused on the benefits of the multidisciplinary intervention and the efficiency of the workshop based on GINA.
