Abstract

LOPEZ-RAMON, María Fernanda. Relationships between Implicit Learning and Age in Children from 7 to 12 Years Old. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.2, pp.126-137. ISSN 1794-4724.

The aim of this study is to analyze the relations between Implicit Learning (IL), Explicit Learning (EL) and age in children of 7 to 12 years old. We administered two learning tests: an Artificial Grammars IL test with a playful figurative design made for children, and an EL figurative test. We worked with a sample of 49 children from 7 to 12 years old of the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina. The obtained results offered empirical support to Reber's assumption of the independence between IL and age. In the discussion, we outlined the importance of the IL as an early mechanism of abstraction of regularities that plays an out-standing role in the acquisition during the infancy and that remains more stable than Explicit Learning.

Keywords : learning; implicit; explicit; age; children.
