Abstract
MATA, Joziana Jesus Da and SCORSOLINI-COMIN, Fabio. Marital Relationships and Adoptive Parenthood in Gay and Lesbian Couples: Considerations Based on Psychic Transmission. Av. Psicol. Latinoam. [online]. 2022, vol.40, n.2, 4. Epub June 28, 2023. ISSN 1794-4724. https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/apl/a.7897.
The psychic transmission allows us to apprehend repeated and recreated processes in families through different generations. These elements can be embodied in marital relationships and parenthood or in how we are parents and couples. This study aimed to investigate the psychic transmission in the construction of marital relationships and parenthood in gay and lesbian couples with adopted children. Three couples with children aged between one and eleven years were interviewed. The thematic analysis showed that the marital relationships of the participants seem to differ in terms of the models learned and experienced with their own parents. Parenthood, on the other hand, seems to be based on parental behaviors and practices experienced through life, although more affective relationships are prioritized in these couples with their children. The family of origin was recognized as a determinant influence in terms of the desire to establish a family and validate parental practices. The greatest ruptures were observed in the construction of marital relationships, not of parenthood. It is recommended to do future studies with the adopted children to increase knowledge about this subject.
