Abstract

SUAREZ LOPEZ, Diana; COLON LOPEZ, Clara; COHEN JIMENEZ, Jesús  and  COLPAS, Emma. Appropriation of social networks for the application of the Socratic method in critical thinking. Zona prox. [online]. 2016, n.25, pp.118-128. ISSN 2145-9444.  https://doi.org/10.14482/zp.22.5832.

Abstract This report research was carried out aiming at implementing the use of social networks as learning strategies to analyze the effect of the Socratic dialog over the critical thinking of an undergraduate education’s freshmen group. The methodological framework was based on a quantitative approach, employing an quasi-experimental design in a control group and an experimental group. The control group worked in the traditional way while the experimental group worked through a learning strategy, such as the Socratic dialog, conducted through a forum and a Facebook chat. This strategy is implemented in every field of knowledge, and may foster the students’ academic performance. In conclusion, the improving outcomes were shown throughout the teaching-learning process in the reading comprehension skill in both groups.

Keywords : chat; Socratic dialogue; Facebook; forum; social networks; critical thinking; TIC.
