Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this research was to identify factors influencing non-use of cytology service provided by the university Wellness at the University of Santander. Materials and Methods: This study is cross sectional. Done in a sample comprised 247 students of the Faculty of Health at the University of Santander in Bucaramanga, in a survey instrument had 15 questions which inquired about knowledge, experience, practice by taking smears, and possible reasons for not accessing this servicio. Results: The population of students from the Faculty of Health at the University of Santander, mean age 21 years students (16.2%) Marital status Single (92.3%) religion (80.6%) were Catholic (45.3%) social security service provider entity (48.9%) if it has ever done a Pap smear (71.8%) prefer to be in cytology (91.5%) students did not use the cytology service offered by the university Wellness (71.7%) of the total sample preferred a women to do pap test, known cytology service provided by making the university Wellness (91.1%) are aware which is the examination of cytology (85%) students believe that their age need a pap test. Discussion and Conclusions: This study detected the low utilization of the university Wellness cytology is due to different factors such as grief or shame, continued to lack of time to be a man fear, pain and discomfort, fear of the result and not are sexually active.
